![]() ![]() So o verall, the M1 architecture is primed to improve productivity judging by the benchmarks and the near-instant wake from sleep. This mix of core types translates into a higher-performance chip than its competitors, that also consumes less po w er. Four of th e eight cores are “efficiency cores” that handle light chores, and t he other four are “high-performance cores” that deal with heavier work loads. M1-base d Macs will be more potent than their predecessors, due in part to those eight cores we mentioned above. Time to dig in! The possibilities from Apple Sil icon M1 M ac s So, with both M1 Macs and the annual macOS update, this is an especially big year, and there’s a lot to unpack. Every version of macOS has included changes to the management process, as macO S gradually transition from traditional management and imaging to a more MDM-centric approach. )Īt the same time that these new M1-based Macs are rolling out, Apple and enterprise customers are also going through the annual macOS update cycle. ( For today, we do want to make sure that our customers are aware that we have found one issue related to M1 Macs, which we’ll be fixing with Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub 20.11.1. Will the new architecture mean th at enterprises have to update their Mac strategy? ![]() Many organizations just rolled out Mac-as-choice programs in the last few years or were looking at doing it soon. These improvements certainly sound impressive, but enterprise customers might be wonder ing what this means for Mac management and application compatibility. Utilizing 5-nanometer technology to pack in 16 billion transistors, Apple has created a n 8-core architecture with unified memory that allows the onboard DRAM to be “shared across the entire system.” Apple claims that the M1-based MacBook Air is up to 3.5 times faster than the i7 version, and all sorts of publications agree that these new Apple device are living up to the hype. On a single chip.” And it certainly sounds like a winning workhorse. Īpple describes the M1 chip as “An entire system. ![]() Fast forward a few months, and Apple is now shipping MacBook Air machines with the new M1 chip – the first in what will surely be a long line of Apple processors for Mac devices. Apple said that they were beginning to make thei r own processors for Macs, and that they would gradually transition off of Intel processors. I'll see what happens when 22H2 finally reaches a retail channel release and if it will be offered to me as an upgrade. One of the big gest announcements back at Apple’s 2020 Worldwide Developer Conference was Apple Silicon. But that hasn't stopped it from getting updates. It too complains about not meeting Windows 11 hardware specifications if I try to enroll it in the Windows Insider Program. It is licensed and activated, and has recently updated itself to the latest 22000.918 monthly updated. The Windows 11 21H2 22000 retail channel build that I'm running as a matter of course has been running fine. However, the build continued to work and there were some updates that it received (such as security updates). I haven't been running with Insider Preview VHDX builds for a while now so I didn't notice this. Once I installed it today, it complained about the build being expired, and that insider options would be limited. Update and I'm going to "eat a bit of crow" here - I did see behavior similar to what you're saying using the insider preview 22598 Beta channel VHDX that I downloaded in mid August. Evidently signing up for the Windows Insider program requires the CPU to be on their supported CPU list.įrom what I’ve seen by running various channel builds of Windows 11 ARM over the last 9 or so months, this does not mean you won’t get Windows updates or that the build you have installed will stop working. The CPU in a both M1 Macs and my Mac mini are not listed as supported CPUs for Windows 11 by Microsoft. I’ve seen this even with a Fusion Windows 11 VM on a 2014 Mac mini. ![]()
